JANÉ CILLIERS

I’ve been fortunate to lead and inspire meaningful and transformational change across diverse sectors; public, private, military, and humanitarian. From leading operations in Afghanistan to Médecins Sans Frontières missions in some of the world’s most volatile contexts, I’ve learned that the heart of leadership lies in resilience, collaboration, and a shared purpose.

As a natural systems thinker, I find energy in solving complex challenges and making the seemingly impossible achievable. Integrity has always been my foundation, guiding me as I work to inspire teams to rise above challenges and deliver lasting impact, even in the toughest environments.

Over the years, I’ve realised that the essence of success is not about imposing a vision, no matter how well-intentioned, but about empowering those who will live with the change. My time in the humanitarian sector taught me that true progress is co-created, not dictated.

I’m passionate about helping individuals and organisations sharpen their vision, align their efforts, and turn aspirations into reality. Whether navigating crises or driving long-term transformation, my role is to listen, understand, and bring clarity and momentum to the collective journey towards meaningful, sustainable success.

RICHARD HALE

My first job was working with ex-offenders to support their efforts to find employment and stability in their lives. I look back at this as a form of apprenticeship that helped me when I moved into industry with training roles with GEC Marconi Avionics and at the launch of satellite TV with BskyB.

I have gravitated toward Organisation Development, supporting leaders across a range of sectors including FMCG, construction, finance, care, education and government. In recent years I have developed an interest in human systems, action research and action learning to accelerate sustainable change in business.

I believe there are many people who deserve more recognition for their contributions and I have developed the Action Learning Question® method. This has been used by clients as a way of structuring work-based projects to maximise learning with others. Several thousand managers have now achieved accredited qualifications using this approach.

Much as I love the dynamics of coaching others, I also enjoy research and writing, having written a number of books on personal development, including Impact and Influence. I have written the career stories of living leaders across business, sport and public service. I like working at the boundaries crossing business practice and research. My doctoral research was focused on the impact of mentoring relationships on learning.

My style is to ask provocative questions but always with the intention of supporting learning and encouraging action.
